From Steve’s Desk…
Oh the fun of summer! I do miss the carefree days of my youth in the summer. I was never much for sleeping late like some of my friends. I always wanted to hit the ground running to enjoy every minute of our break. My time was way back when we only had 3 TV channels, so there wasn’t that much to watch during the day; so we were outside, rain or shine. So many of my memories of growing up are about my summer days spent in the woods. Oh, the adventures we had then: We would build (or attempt to build) log cabins and act like pioneers; We would also name the trees and act like forest rangers; We’d swim in the creek; look for salamanders; and swat mosquitoes and deer flies. My memories may be too far removed now, but it sure seemed like a perfect time and place to grow up. I hope that our children are making their own memories today of carefree times so that when they look back, they will look back with as much fondness as I do. I hope you all do. Today my days aren’t so carefree, but I still enjoy summer. My summer calendar is full, and I know your calendars are too. At church, we are taking breaks from our regular activities to give time for families and friends. We also have activities scheduled that will involve the entire family and the church family. And of course, we have our Sunday worship and Sunday School services as usual. I do want to encourage that this summer we don’t forget God. Be here when you can; and when you can’t, make sure God goes with you. I encourage you to find a church to attend. Many of our state and national parks do have Sunday services offered. Even if it is on your own, spend time with Him. Spending time with Him as a family, as a church family, and by yourself will build those memories and make you long for the next time you can do it again. Thank Him for this break, this weather, and your family and for your life. Make those memories that last a lifetime!
